Best Practices for Growing Your E-mail List (and fast)!

Let’s talk about your email list.

Now we know what you might be thinking, “Email marketing is kind of dead, shouldn’t I be focusing my efforts elsewhere?”

Sure, social media has taken over but that does not mean you should leave your email list to collect dust. Why? Because, email marketing is the best way to nurture AND convert your audience. AKA turning your audience into buying customers. We don’t want to bore you with statistics, so if you don’t believe us - Google it. Google will tell you we’re right - email marketing is one of the best forms of marketing for your ROI….and if Google says it, it’s true. 😉

Not only does email marketing allow you to directly connect with your audience without an algorithm interfering but you control what is being said and when it’s said.

Have we convinced you to start caring about your email list yet?

If you need a little bit of a nudge, just remember that building an email list, maintaining it, and keeping it growing is not as hard as it sounds! That’s why our team put together these 4 tips on how to grow your email list ASAP!

Tip #1 - Get yourself an opt-in form

Without one, where will your audience sign up? We suggest having your opt-in form as a pop-up on your website, this is sure to catch the users attention. Keep this pop-up engaging but also short & sweet. Users are more likely to fill out a pop-up if there are fewer fields. Collecting their name & email is a priority!

If a pop-up feels too intrusive, then have it as a section at the bottom of your homepage just above your footer. And if you don’t like the way that looks or it messes with the flow of your homepage then add the form into your footer. If you choose this option we suggest keeping it simple and only collecting the name and email.

Bonus Tip: Make sure your opt-in form is mobile-optimized. More than likely over 50% of your audience is on a mobile device, so you need to make sure your form can perform on a mobile device like it does on a desktop.

Tip #2 - Offer a Lead Magnet (AKA freebies!)

Everyone loves free stuff so why not use that to your advantage? We have definitely forked over our email for a free guide or template before, so trust us it works - even on marketers. 😂

Now that you’ve got the form, it’s time to offer something to your audience in exchange for them joining your list. We call this giving your audience value. It’s more likely someone will give you their email if they are getting something in return.

  • If you are service-based, offer things like guides, checklists, e-books, or templates.

  • If you are product-based, offer things like discounts, guides, pre-launch waitlists, or free shipping.

Bonus Tip: Set up an automation for these emails! This way your email list is working in the background without you having to manually send out your freebies.

Tip #3 - Talk About Your Email on Social Media!

Promoting your email/newsletter on social media is a great way for people to learn about it without even seeing your website. Obviously, getting them to your site to purchase a product or service is the goal.  The great thing about using social media to promote your email sign-up is the established interest you have with your followers. This means they like you, they’re already warmed up to your content, and they’ll likely give you their email address quickly.. Especially if you’re using Tip #2 to garner interest!

Bonus Tip: Boost your posts that promote your email sign-up! This way you can reach more people than you usually do and get more email sign-ups. Just don’t boost it using the “boost button” in IG please. Be strategic with your targeting by using the Meta Ads Manager. You’ll thank us.

Tip #4 - Host a Free Virtual Event or Webinar!

Not only will you be able to go into more detail about your product or service but you can also tailor it to specific needs that your audience may be experiencing. Hosting events like this helps to build a personal connection with your audience. Positioning yourself as someone they can trust and count on in your field.

Bonus Tip: Have your followers vote on or write in the topics they want to be discussed. Not only does this promote the webinar further (and you get more email sign-ups) but this also gives your audience a chance to engage and get involved!

Extra Bonus Tip (cause we love ya 😉) - Link Your Email Signup in Your Social Media Bio

Your social media bio is prime real estate and it’s often the first point of contact with your brand for your audience. Adding your email signup to your bio is an easy way to turn casual followers into engaged subscribers. Create a focused & clear CTA that entices your audience to sign up.

Some examples: "Want exclusive offers? Join our VIP list!" or "Sign up for free tips & discounts delivered to your inbox!"

We suggest changing your bio to match whatever campaign you are running at the time. Offering a free webinar? That’s your CTA! Or just released a new guide or template? Use that!

We hope this has been helpful for you - now go build that list!

But first, join our list. 😉 We won’t spam you…promise. But we WILL dish out marketing best practices, behind the scenes stories, and advice that is always rooted in transparency.
